km² is a duo formed by Slovenian accordionist Manca Dornik and Finnish percussionist Kalle Hakosalo. Found in the summer of 2017, they were brought together by the passion of creating new music for their instrumental combination by collaborating with composers.
During their existence they’ve performed established concert engagements in Finland, Denmark and France, in prestigious venues like Cité du Musique et de la Danse Strasbourg and Helsinki Music Centre. They’ve been awarded in international competitions like the ENKOR Music Competition and the Great Composers’ Competition, and supported by eg. Sibelius Fund, Madetoja Foundation and Musiikin Edistämissäätiö. They have collaborated with composers such as Mioko Yokoyama, Lara Poe, Esben Nordborg Møller, Annette Schlünz, Uroš Rojko and Tapio Nevanlinna.
In 2020, their plans include invitation for residency in New York, to perform concerts and work with composers Adam Mirza and Moon Young, as well as give world premieres of works by young composers Rolf Gustavson and Elisar Riddelin.
